Paul Colbey writes about the phenomenon of punk rock music and how it is misunderstood by the public. The root cause of punk rock being misunderstood is the lyrics and the way they sound. Punk rock is performed very openly and the performers do not hold much back. They pretty much just say what they are feeling about or whatever is going on in there lives. Punk rock is very vulgar and explicit in what they use as lyrics. The punk rockers do not hold much beck. This is the part of punk rock that makes it so misunderstood. Just because the performer is feeling that way does not mean we have to feel the same. People have many different feeling about what is going on in the world today but sometimes there feelings do match with the performers feelings. This is when people feel an automatic connection to the groups and there performances. (I do not really consider this to be singing but it is a performance. They are performers and very good at what they do.) I really do not thing there is a generation gap with punk rock. It is just a style of music that people listen to. Yes, punk rock is mostly listen to by young children, I would think that this mainly has to do with what the groups are saying in there so-called songs. These groups are usually made up of teenagers and young adults which interns attract the younger crowd. I think that this genre of music does show a changing of the times. It shows how people are able to except a wider variety of vocabulary on television or on the radio. It seems like the FCC is relaxing on some of the words said over the radio air waves.

Music
When I look through my music collections, I realize that there is really no pattern to what I listen to. Country music seems to be what I have been acquiring the most of lately. The thing that makes this the most ironic is that when I was in high school I could not stand country music. Back then country and rap were the two genres of music I could not listen to. Now I can listen to some rap. When it comes to rap I am very pick on who and what I am listening to. All other music genres of music I have always listen to. People never really influenced me on what kind of music that I would play. My mood was one thing that would determine what radio station, cd or mp3 I would have playing. Most of the time I will just pick a station that I like on the radio and let it continue to play.
Kurt Cobain had one of the most appealing formats for me to read. Reading is journal to me was like listening to someone talking to me. The way it was written by the author made this article easy for me to read and also to keep my attention. Yes the writing was vulgar at times but that is the way people talk. When these biographies are written formally I have a hard time keeping my mind on the book.
Even though I rather read something like what Kurt Cobain wrote the other writing still have their own pros and cons. The lecture writing style by Copland can get the point across directly. This seems to be a very dry way to get the information to people. Lectures always make me think of school, to me that is an automatic way to turn me off from reading. Another approach is the direction the Kurt Cobain went. His journal is very easy to read and interesting to read exactly what the writer is thinking. The one major problem I can see with this is that the writer can go off on tangents and lose his audience quickly. The personal essay that appeared as an article (by Quindlen) to me is almost like a journal, it is straight from the authors mind. They are sharing their thoughts with the reader. The personal essay can be very dry if not written right can be very dry. If one is looking for facts and not someone’s personal opinion about certain subject’s, journalism is another way to read up on certain ideas. Journalist like Toure writes is usually short and to the point. They do not spend too much time on all the little details. It is short sweet and to the point. The down side of journalism is that if one wants to find out all the little details of a minor part of the subjects life, an article in a newspaper is not the place to do the research for that specific time in the subject’s life.
